Following are some tips to prevent spray droplets to be formed at the analytical tips. I learn the tips from Johannes and Lujian. Please add more tips in if you have.

Possible Causes:

1. The voltage is off 2. Gold diode is dirty or not placed within the T properly 3. The positioning of your tip relative to the heated capillary 4. A blunted tip

Getting no spectra? Outside of a droplet forming these can also be some reasons you are not seeing any spectra.

5. A clogged tip (this can also be another reason you are 6. Your sample is running out of protein

The principle is to create proper voltage between the spray tip and the mass spectrometer.

1. Try to use a new analytical spray tip, instead of using an old one.
2. Clean the metal piece that is connecting high voltage electrode.
3. Clean the ion transfer capillary (also known as heated capillary).

4. Adjust the position of your tip (i.e. move it forward and back until the droplet stops)

5. Lower your flow rate and move the tip very close to the heated capillary.

6. If you can see that your tip is rather blunt, change the tip.
